About the Session

Just how well do modern-era South African wines perform as they get older ? One of the most important measures of great wine is that it should be age-worthy, that is it should become more pleasurable and more interesting to drink with time in the bottle.

About this Item

2013 Syrah
5 (1 x 5) 750ml

After nearly 2 decades at La Motte, Jacques Borman established family-owned Boschkloof in 1996 and built a reputation with these quality, structured, long-lived Stellenbosch reds, most notably Syrah, earning him a membership with the Cape Winemakers Guild. Around the turn of the last decade the arrival of his son Reenen onto the scene (also behind the successful Patatsfontein, Kottabos and Sons of Sugarland) saw the bar being raised even further, with many commentators tipping him as one to watch in terms of next generation Cape winemakers.

Handcrafted wines from a boutique family winery. Situated eight kilometers west of Stellenbosch in South Africa’s prime wine producing region, the Borman family strive to perfect the art of winemaking.

Critics Ratings

'This is quite oaky at the moment, but has the focus, raspberry and strawberry fruit density and granitic minerality to absorb it. The perfume is beguiling, too. Drink: 2015-20 ' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2015, 90/100
