About the Session

Just how well do modern-era South African wines perform as they get older ? One of the most important measures of great wine is that it should be age-worthy, that is it should become more pleasurable and more interesting to drink with time in the bottle.

About this Item

2013 Pinot Noir
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Dalla Cia's story began in the 1920s when Vittorio Dalla Cia, a wine merchant, started the first Dalla Cia Distillery which grew into one of the biggest producers of Grappa in Italy. In 1974, Vittorio's son, Giorgio, moved to South Africa with his family and worked at Meerlust Estate for 25 years. He was a pioneer in the creation of Bordeaux-style blends in South Africa and in founding the first Grappa Distillery on a South African Wine Estate. Giorgio established Dalla Cia in 2001 and has built a brand which stands for age-old Italian tradition and passion for innovation.

Critics Ratings

'Maroon-edged light cerise. Overt oaky aromas, barrel and marzipan whiffs but with delicate black cherry fruit starting to emerge. Still youthful but beginning to show spicy nutty notes and almost leathery nuances. Textured and savoury and still in need of time in bottle.' – Michael Fridjhon, winewizard.co.za (Oct 2016)
