About the SessionJust how well do modern-era South African wines perform as they get older ? One of the most important measures of great wine is that it should be age-worthy, that is it should become more pleasurable and more interesting to drink with time in the bottle.

About this Item
In 1992, the late Giulio Bertrand retired to South Africa from Italy and bought the historic Morgenster farm on the slopes of the Schaapenberg, which dates back to 1711. Specialising in long-ageing Bordeaux-style reds, the director of Cheval Blanc, Pierre Luton, was hired as the consultant.

Critics Ratings
'Brooding, dense, concentrated and compact, this is a brilliant blend of Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The flavours are certainly ripe, but they are balanced by polished tannins, deftly integrated (60% new) oak, some graphite and green herb flavours and refreshing acidity. A wine to tuck away. Drink: 2017-25.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016, 94/100
