About the Session

Just how well do modern-era South African wines perform as they get older ? One of the most important measures of great wine is that it should be age-worthy, that is it should become more pleasurable and more interesting to drink with time in the bottle.

Critics Ratings

‘Some consumers may fnd the 15%+ alcohol a little excessive here, but it’s very much part of the style. Combining Cabernet with 31% Syrah and 11% Merlot, this is a ripe, smooth, plush red with supple tannins and notes of violet, liquorice, fruitcake and blackberry. Drink: 2016-21.’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016, 93/100

'Warm cocoa and coffee notes lead the way for a fleshy core of black currant and blackberry confiture. The long, loamy finish maintains a dark profile without losing definition. Latent grip emerges steadily. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. Best from 2017 through 2022.' – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Sep 2016)

'Deep, almost liquorous aromas of cassis, black cherry and raspberry sauce lead the nose of this concentrated wine. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, the ripe, lush palate offers ample tannic structure, but is lifted by vibrant acidity and a fruity juiciness that carries through to the finish. Hints of bittersweet chocolate and licorice root unfold on the back on the close. It's approachable now, and should continue to age well through 2022.' – Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 91/100 (Sep 2016)
