Critics Ratings
Ferreira Porto Ruby NV:
'Ferreira Ruby Port has an intense and well defined ruby hue, showing the quality of the selected wines. Its intense aroma is reminiscent of very ripe fruit, fine-tuned through its careful ageing in wood as well as through the blending carried out during its natural ageing process. Full-bodied and rich, it has a fine balance between its sweetness and its tannin structure, giving it unique characteristics and a fine and attractive long finish.' - Winery Notes
Fonseca Bin No. 27 Fine Reserve Port NV:
‘Mid-deep ruby-purple. Quite integral alcohol, spice and ripe red and black fruit. Broad, rich, spiced style is definitively port. Sweet, with dense red and black fruit, supple, moderate tannins and a warming, slightly fiery finish.’ – Tim Jackson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 15.5/20 (Mar 2019)
‘Fresh and grapey, with plenty of grip and power behind dark plum, chocolate and berry flavors that feature slate and pepper notes. Drink now through 2020.’ – Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator, 90/100 (Sep 2012)
‘Launched in 1972, Bin No27 is a Reserve Port aged for about four years before bottling vibrant, dense berry fruit on nose and palate, plummy in style with enveloping richness and a gentle, peppery finish.’ – Richard Mayson, Decanter.com, 90/100
Fonseca Late Bottled Vintage Port 1991 (Bottled in 1996):
‘Fonseca has scored in both the 1991 and 1992 vintages. The 1991 Guimaraens is the most impressive bottle I have tasted of this offering. The opaque purple color, and sweet, copious aromas of cassis, licorice, and flowers, are followed by a supple, rich, full-bodied, precocious tasting port that is already easy to drink. While it will be quick to develop, it still requires another 4-5 years of aging. It is extremely impressive because of its sumptuous texture and rich, pure fruit.’ - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Feb 1995)
‘Fabulous blackberry and berry aromas follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate. Medium sweet, with a refined, silky finish. Still shows tannic astringency, but super long and gorgeous, with a chocolate character. Just starting to be ready.’ - Wine Spectator, 93/100 (May 2005)
'Aromas of ripe fruit and plum pudding. Opulent and creamy nose with hints of violets. Great richness and pungency in the fruit. Perfect balance in the mouth, with lovely fat, round fruit flavors and a good, firm grip. Long, elegant and flavorful finish.’ - Winery Notes
