The Oude Libertas winery is one of the oldest wineries in South Africa and houses the oldest and most established and picturesque amphitheatre in Stellenbosch.
This wine has been checked and re-corked by Amorim cork under supervision of auction curator Higgo Jacobs, assuring provenance, quality and long life. Seal codes ZZ-551300, LA-581349 can be traced on Amorim Recorking Directory
This wine is still in its original packaging when used as the Stellenbosch 300 year festivals in 1979. As part of the festival, the students of the private student house, Libertas held a relay marathon from Pretoria to Stellenbosch. These packages were used as gifts to the mayors of various towns along the way.

'Medium to dark red colour that has that tinge of a brown edge of a well-matured wine. Ripe red fruit with nuances of spice and savouriness and a touch of forest floor. The palate is lively, more of the sweet red fruit that is so typical of Pinotage when it matures. Still some tannins on the mid palate, but compliments the elegant fruit that comes through the spiciness. Delightful soft aftertaste and lovely balance in the wine.' - Bennie Howard CWM (Mar 2023)
