About this Item
Joh. Jos. Prüm is easily one of Germany's most famous wine producers. The estate is based in the village of Wehlen on the banks of the Mosel, and produces top-quality Rieslings that are noted for their balance and longevity. J.J. Prüm's wines are highly collectable. The Prüm family has been making wine in the Mosel for several hundred years, but Joh. Jos. Prüm was founded properly in 1911, by Johann Josef Prüm. The estate was taken over by his brother Sebastian in 1920, the year that Joh. Jos. Prüm created its first sweet Auslese wine, and from there went on to become one of Germany's most well-known and highly respected wines. It has remained in the family since.
The lot consist of 1 bottle each 2004 & 2007 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese.

Critics Ratings
2004:
‘A bit of lightweight smoky evolution on the nose. Tart pear juice – really still lots of acidity! – and some real purity. I’d wait a little while for the acidity to subside….’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jun 2016)
‘Subtle bouquet offers passion fruit, lemon oil and nutmeg. The lusciously sweet tropical fruit flavors are highlighted by a refreshing acidity that makes this auslese appear light in spite of its density. Elegant, airy and aristocratic rather than overblown, this wine is eminently drinkable already but should age exceptionally well.’ – Joel Payne, Vinous, 93/100 (Jan 2006)
‘This has a matchstick aroma from reduction, while the palate expresses peach, lime and mineral flavors. It has fine density and a keen-edged structure that keeps it detailed and crunchy. Long, mouthwatering finish. Best from 2009 through 2030.’ – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Apr 2006)
2007:
‘Pale golden yellow. Classy bouquet of ripe apple, vanilla and sweet herbs. Rich on the palate, with a salty, resinous character and undeniably sweet apricot fruit. Unctuous yet vibrantly spicy, with a long, complex finish. This still needs time but will be a great auslese.’ – Joel Payne, Vinous, 95/100 (Jan 2009)
‘Pungent aromas of slate and flowers give way to peach and lime in this unevolved Riesling. The texture is supersilky, with great harmony among all the elements. Terrific length. Needs time. Best from 2014 through 2040.' – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Apr 2009)
