About this Item
KWV has been a traditional mainstay of the South African wine scene for decades. Founded in the same year Nelson Mandela was born, KWV has seen how the SA wine industry has changed over the years.
The 1948 received many accolades in its early life, but was awarded the Trophy for Best Museum Class Cape Port at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show Awards 2016.
This is an excellent matured and balanced fortified wine, golden-green in colour. The wine shows aromas of caramel, hazel nuts, and potpourri on the nose. The palate is creamy but still lively with nuances of raisins. The delicate, soft tannin structure leaves this wine with a luscious, smooth finish. Notably, this wine was bottled prior to the introduction of SAWIS certification and mandatory declaration of alcohol. Origin: Boberg - Paarl.

'Higgo Jacobs remarked on how special a week it had been for us having tasted and drank the 1948 on 3 occasions as part of the leadup to the 2015 Nederburg Auction. All 3 bottles were beautiful – composed, warming and complex, with the Tawny hues balanced by red fruits, spicy notes and raisin sweetness. It has terrific freshness and structure for decade more cellaring.' - Roland Peens, 95/100 (Aug 2015)
