About this Item
Wedged between the Stellenbosch and Helderberg mountains, situated on the beautiful Mont Fleur farm, is the boutique De Trafford winery. The Trafford family purchased the land in 1976 and a small vineyard was in place by 1983.
De Trafford's flagship wine, a selection of the best barrels from our home vineyard at 393m above sea level. The aim of the Elevation is to express this remarkable site to the full and accentuate the character of each vintage, rather than a more homogeneous style.

Critics Ratings
‘Shiraz with 3 Bordeaux grapes in 2012 (each vintage differs). Powerful but pleasing fusion of primary cassis fruit and earthy undertones, graphite and cedarwood. 23 months in mostly new oak, so tannins are rounded if still unyielding - will reward the patient.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2018, 4.5* (92/100)
‘The Elevation blend combines mostly Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Aged in new French oak, it’s a ripe, dense, powerful style that flirts with jamminess but is saved by acidity and a leafy freshness. 2018-23.’ - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2018, 93/100
‘Singed tobacco and iron notes are a savory presence riding alongside the sun-dried black cherry and plum compote flavors in this medium- to full-bodied red. Aging gracefully, while still fresh and showing good focus, offers a pleasing, integrated creaminess and accents of coffee liqueur, date and candied violet that linger on the finish. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2027.’ - Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Jul 2021)
