About this Item
Richard Kershaw was a successful chef in the UK before working as a cellar-hand in California, Chile, France, Germany and Hungary. He relocated to South Africa in 1999 and is currently one of only ten Masters of Wine who actively produce their own wine. Focusing on cool climate, site-specific, clonally-selected wines, Richard hit the ground running in Elgin valley, immediately gaining a reputation as one of South Africa’s finest Chardonnay producers and most knowledgeable winemakers.
Winemakers personal tasting note:
'Mid Garnet colour. Aromas of ground peppercorns, raw meat, a pinch of cranberry and a savoury, tertiary overlay. The palate has a supple, elegant feel to it, mid-weight with a sinuous, texture and resolved fine tannins. The flavours of white pepper, dark chocolate cake and black fruits are underpinned with a rasp of acidity. Already complex the fresh acid and present yet fine tannins should keep for a few years still.' - Richard Kershaw

Critics Ratings
‘Ethereal allspice and white pepper notes to finely etched, iodine-tinged dark berry fruit flavours in fantastic 2012 debut. Exceptional food partner - savouriness and tempered tannins perfectly complement richer dishes (duck, pork belly), amplify the ‘umami’ tone of both food and wine. 50% new casks for 15 months.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2015, 4.5*
‘Mid crimson and very subtle perfume. Definitely a Syrah that recalls the northern Rhône more than a Shiraz from Barossa. What a skein of integrity there is here! It's really very fine. The fruit is more cranberry than anything else but is more subtle than that.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (May 2014)
