About this Item
Usana was founded in 2003 by brothers JP and Pierre Winshaw. It is located in Klein Welmoed in Stellenbosch. Usana translates to ‘a baby’ or ‘a new beginning’ in Xhosa and represents the start of a new venture for the Winshaw family. Usana produces a range of wines as well as pasture-reared beef, lamb and eggs on the Winshaw Family Farm.
"This wines name “The Fox” is named after the current farm owner's great grandfather, Gideon Johannes Joubert. His foresight and dedication in the wine industry made it possible for Usana to produce and present this elegant wine to the world. His nickname was given to him by the fox stamp that was used to mark his fruit when it was delivered to the co-ops."

Critics Ratings
'Matured for 14 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, 20% new. Red and black berries, dried herbs, meat stock and turned earth on the nose while the palate is seamless – pure, layered and long. Great detail and still remarkably youthful.' - WineMag.co.za 2012 Vintage report (March 2022), 94/100
'Juicy 2012 shows aromas of blackcurrant, plum & tobacco. The vibrant palate is tight, with firm, mouth-puckering tannin structure - but enough fruit for maturation to soften it.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2015, 4*
