About this Item
Mas Martinet is a Spanish winery linked to the small group of winemakers attributed with reinvigorating Priorat as one of the country's finest wine-producing regions. Garnacha is the most important grape in the vineyards and in the wines, making up the majority of many of Martinet's blends. The winery dates back to 1989 when José Luis Pérez and the likes of René Barbier, Alvaro Palacios, Carles Pastrana and Dafne Glorian began reviving vineyards in Priorat. They produced their first wines together in the Clos Mogador winery before separating in the early 1990s to each found their own estates. Pérez founded Mas Martinet.
Producer Tasting Notes: It is a wine that escapes from the typical structure, strength and rusticity of Priorat in order to offer the lightness, delicacy and maturity of the old wines.

Critics Ratings
‘Mid ruby. Smells darker fruited than the 2012. Chalky, dry and mineral on the palate, perhaps more chewy than the 2012 but still with that lovely dry finesse, strongly mineral. Seems to be maturing more slowly than the 2012, a little more closed. Broach now with food or wait a while.’ – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Jun 2015)
‘The 2010 Els Escurcons is pure Garnacha (since 2008) from a 600-meter altitude vineyard planted in 1999. Part of the wine aged in terracotta amphorae, which is the way to go for this wine in the future (100% since 2012, but in 2010 there was only one amphora and seven oak barrels). The nose has more red fruit than black, with notes of blood orange and licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, lively acidity and freshness. It is both ripe and fragile, with good freshness. Drink 2014-2020.’ - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Feb 2014)
‘Brilliant ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes candied red fruits, Asian spices, lavender, smoky minerals and blood orange. Stains the palate with intense black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter with air. Pure, focused and expansive, closing with outstanding focus and smooth, harmonius, late-arriving tannins. This elegant wine is pretty gorgeous right now but has the depth and balance to age effortlessly.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 94/100 (Sep 2014)
