About this Item

2004 Pintia
4 (1 x 4) 750ml

Vega Sicilia was founded in 1864 by the Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves and is widely considered as Spain’s leading wine producer! The Alvarez family took over in 1982 providing more consistent quality in their wines over the years. They produce three wines Unico, Valbuena 5° and Vega Sicilia Unico Reserva Especial from their 210 hectares of vines. Their estate in Ribera del Duero is known for its dense, complex red wines made principally from the Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grape variety and produces, Unico, is one of Spain's most expensive and sought-after wines.

The independent member of the Vega Sicilia family. Pintia is young, intense and ground-breaking in nature. Proud of its origin, it has managed to reinterpret the Vega Sicilia culture in an innovative, brave and daring manner, at the head of the emergence of a new generation of Toro wines.

Critics Ratings

‘Very dark purplish crimson. Very well integrated and savoury. It’s almost sitting in an armchair at its club. Lovely and unctuous – wonderful texture – and none of the heat and obvious sweetness of many Toros. Bravissimo! Dry finish. A lovely drink by any standards.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 19/20 (Nov 2006)

‘There is an air of confidence about the bouquet on the 2004 Pintia, with scents of dark cherry, Indian ink, wild strawberry and a touch of raspberry preserve, all with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet core of red berry fruit. The tannins are strong and quite robust, although it is counterbalanced by plenty of fresh red fruit mingling with dried herbs, white pepper and a touch of sage. There is a touch of astringency on the finish, but otherwise this powerful Pintia should age over several more years.’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Apr 2013)

‘Saturated ruby. Intensely perfumed, expansive aromas of dark berries, kirsch, oak spices and mocha, with a suave mineral undercurrent. Rich, focused dark berry and cherry flavors are framed by strong but harmonious tannins and complicated by notes of dark chocolate, candied violet and vanilla bean. Lush and sweet on the impressively sappy, long finish. Although I’m confident that this will age well, it’s mighty delicious now.’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (July 2007)
