About this Item
Vega Sicilia was founded in 1864 by the Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves and is widely considered as Spain’s leading wine producer! The Alvarez family took over in 1982 providing more consistent quality in their wines over the years. They produce three wines Unico, Valbuena 5° and Vega Sicilia Unico Reserva Especial from their 210 hectares of vines. Their estate in Ribera del Duero is known for its dense, complex red wines made principally from the Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grape variety and produces, Unico, is one of Spain's most expensive and sought-after wines.
The independent member of the Vega Sicilia family. Pintia is young, intense and ground-breaking in nature. Proud of its origin, it has managed to reinterpret the Vega Sicilia culture in an innovative, brave and daring manner, at the head of the emergence of a new generation of Toro wines.

‘The 2007 Pintia has a deep garnet core. The bouquet is powerful, almost as intense as the 2004, but it exhibits greater delineation and perhaps even more complexity. There are gorgeous notes of dark cherries, cassis and touches of dried violets. The palate is medium-bodied with a rounded mouthfeel – a smooth, suave Pintia with layers of red fruit laced with dried herbs, cedar and a hint of Moroccan spice. The tannins are soft but define the 2007 at the moment. There remains some oak to be subsumed towards the finish, which exerts a firm grip. This deserves two or three years longer in bottle – this is a little harlot of a wine!’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Apr 2013)
‘Inky ruby. Powerfully scented and ripe, displaying cassis, cherry compote and singed plum aromas, with notes of mocha and vanilla coming up with air. Broad and smoky in the mouth, with sweet dark fruit and spice flavors and a licorice pastille quality. Finishes smooth and punchy, with the ripe dark fruit note repeating. No way that I’d have guessed this wine was from a difficult vintage.’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 92/100 (Seo 2011)
