About this Item
The Antinori family has been committed to the art of winemaking for over six centuries, since 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member of the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri – the Florentine Winemakers’ Guild. Throughout its history, which spans an incredible twenty-six generations, the Antinori family has managed their business directly, making innovative, bold decisions while respecting their traditions and the environment. Their innovations played a pivotal part in Italy’s ‘Super-Tuscan’ revolution of the 1970s. As Marchese Piero loves to say, ‘ancient family roots play an important part in our philosophy but they have never hindered our innovative spirit.’
Formerly this wine was known as 'Chianti Classico Riserva Vigneto Tignanello'

Critics Ratings
‘The estate’s 1999 Tignanello is a wine in which the Sangiovese plays a leading role. Classic notes of tobacco, dried cherries, spices, leather and underbrush all emerge from this sweet, layered offering. This richly textured generous Tignanello has put on significant weight in bottle and shows remarkable overall balance. In 1999 Tignanello comes across as more complete than Solaia.’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 94/100 (Nov 2008)
'The 1999 vintage from one of the original Super Tuscans remains powerful and spicy with rich red fruits at nearly 20 years old. There are some notes of evolution, and it takes a heartbeat to settle and open, but the fruit arrives to plump out the mid-palate, and its generosity soon becomes clear. Toffee, crushed raspberry, coffee, leather and cigar box are all on display, making this wine beautifully tempting and appealing. The tannins are soft and melted by this point.' - Jane Anson, Wine Decanter, 93/100 (Nov 2019)
‘The deep ruby/purple-colored 1999 Tignanello exhibits rare elegance married to considerable flavor intensity as well as power. Normally a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc aged in French oak for 12 months, the 1999 offers up aromas of new saddle leather intertwined with black cherries, currants, creosote, vanilla, and spice box. Rich and medium-bodied, with adequate acidity as well as sweet but noticeable tannin, it is the third consecutive exceptional vintage from this reference winery for modern, aggressively-styled Tuscan reds. Anticipated maturity: now-2012.’ - Robert Parker Jr, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Dec 2002)
