About this Item

2012 Syrah
12 (2 x 6) 750ml

Boekenhoutskloof, located in the Franschhoek valley, was established in 1776 and gets its name 'Boekenhout' from an indigenous Beech tree. Boekenhoutskloof, managed by Marc Kent, describes themself as a Syrah specialist. Their efforts in conservation can be seen through initiatives they have taken-on in their farm and surrounding areas. They are also a founding member of the Franschhoek Mountain Conservancy.

The last vintage produced from the award-winning Wellington decomposed granite site before switching to Swartland fruit, this Syrah was also a Platters Guide 5* recipient.

Critics Ratings

(5*) replicates 11’s light violet whiffs & expressive plum, berry fruit & spice highlights. Trademark precision & nuanced subtlety. Dry, fine tannin partly from the older oak, 27 months. Wellington fruit, as always.’ Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2015, 5*

Very ripe, but pure and focused, with a range of black cherry, damson plum and cassis fruit that courses along, lined with subtle iron and black tea notes. Drives through a long, energetic finish... 200 cases imported.’ Wine Spectator (May 2015), 93/100

Bright ruby-red. Deep aromas of blueberry, violet, chocolate, liquorice pastille and black pepper. A pure, vinous midweight, with a very smooth texture and a sweet oak component that contributes to its appeal. Finishes with serious building, tongue-coating tannins.’ Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com (June 2015), 91/100
