'The flagship red from this prestige vineyard. Complex, trenchant, wide-flavoured, tannic; in the Cape context these are powerhouse not effete wines. Do not look for elegance, at least too early, though Paul Sauers achieve accessible harmony a year or two ahead of the straight cabernets below. 1987 has all Kanonkop hallmarks.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 1990, 4*"
