About this Item
The now historic wine is single-handedly responsible for launching the Super Tuscan movement and remains one of the most sought-after wines in the world. After decades of experimentation, the first vintage was released in 1968. Marchese Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta continues the decades of tradition today at Tenuta San Guido, which is considered by many to be the birthplace of Tuscan Cabernet.
It’s a classically styled wine that is matures with grace and this rare mini-vertical from the 80s and 90s.

Critics Ratings
1987 - Just mid ruby with orange rim, but not really old looking. Distinct undergrowth and tobacco leaf. With air, there is sweet fruit and fine oak note. Really fine perfume with aeration. Lifted acidity structuring the perfumed fruit. Muscular tannin, but not rough. Perhaps not huge length on the finish. At its peak it seems, but will stay there for a while. - Walter Speller JancisRobinson.com 17/20 (2013)
1989 – Another average year with a difficult harvest but Sassicaia overcame these obstacles with the class of a great racehorse. This is certainly lesser wine than the 1988 and ’90 but this does not make any less ‘human’ for those of us who love it. Its principle traits are its immediacy and drinkability. Red fruit stands out in the fragrant and intense aroma that also has a hint of spice The mouthfeel is smooth, flowing and pleasing with the fruit returning in the aftertaste. - WineDocter 87/100 (2016)
1993 - This was the last vintage the wine was classified as Vino da Tavola. Deep garnet still. Very youthful and healthy colour. Fine leafy pencil lead nose but not green. Amazing freshness and purity on the nose. Still has fine dark cherry fruit, delicacy and finesse. Mineral, dry and mouthwatering. Elegant and still has some sweetness. Less dry and better balance than the 1996. - Julia Harding MW JancisRobinson.com 18/20 (2010)
1997 - Sweet. pointed. Round and mellow and quite evolved. Very charming but more relaxed, loose and French than the California style and sweetness of the Ornellaia. Very appetising. Light and very Cabernet. - Jancis Robinson 18.5/20 (2005)
