About this Item

2013 Reserve Chardonnay
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

DeMorgenzon first burst onto the scene in 2005 with this, their debut Chenin Blanc earning a Platter’s 5*, from low-yielding vines planted in 1972. Owned by the Wendy and Hylton Applebaum, the picturesque farm with 360° aspect and high views over False bay and Table mountain is perched on top of Stellenbosch kloof.

This vintage of the Reserve Chardonnay was the 2015 Platter’s Guide White Wine of the Year and featured in critic Jamie Goode’s 10 Ten South African Wines of 2014.

Critics Ratings

Our prestigious White Wine of the Year for 2015 makes a fine case for this variety on its Stellenboschkloof site. Sleekly rich 13’s mineral core gathered by perfectly poised line of acidity & deft oaking (66% new). Clarity of flavour broadened by year on lees for complete, thrillingly delicious mouthful.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2015, 5*

The 2013 Reserve Chardonnay is a barrel selection raised in 66% new oak and 34% second-fill for 12 months, bottled unfined and unfiltered. It has a very attractive bouquet with scents of dried honey, honeycomb and lavender that is entrancing. The palate is crisp on the entry with nectarine, white peach and citrus peel. This is very well-balanced, long in the mouth, with sufficient fruit and tension on the finish to leave you wanting another sip. Be warned - this is very seductive.’ Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (October 2014), 92/100
