About this Item
Le Riche was founded in 1996 by Etienne le Riche, one of the founding members of the Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG). Situated on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, it is now run by Etienne’s son, Christo and daughter, Yvonne. Le Riche are known for premium red wines in a classic South African style. Grapes are selected from top growers in Stellenbosch, coming from mainly two soil types – decomposed granite soils and sandy gravel. The winemaking approach is traditionally simplistic, yet innovative.
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was a Platter’s 5 Star and was offered at the CWG auction.

Critics Ratings
‘07 shows vibrant, ripe cherry fruitiness that melds well with a classic, yet rich palate, with expressive soft oak spice. Firm yet fine tannin structure aids longevity. Best to keep min 2-5 yrs, as with 06. 2 yrs new French oak.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2011, 5*
‘Deep ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, bitter chocolate and mint. Suave, rich and seamless, with its dark berry and black plum flavors complemented by strong oak tones. Savory more than sweet. À point but should hold well. Finishes with fine-grained, resolved tannins and excellent length.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com 91/100 (2016)
