About this Item
Based in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, it is a family affair at Newton Johnson. Started by Cape Wine Master, Dave and his wife, Felicity, sons Bevan and Gordon took over the reins in the mid-2000s, joined today by Gordon’s wife Nadia. Today Newton Johnson is world-famous for their fine Chardonnays and Pinot Noir. Along with multiple accolades, the Pinot Noir has one of the longest consecutive Platter 5 Stars in history.
The Windandsea was planted on clay and decomposed granite and was the 2014 Platter’s Red Wine of the Year.

‘Our prestigious Red Wine of the Year, rich, fragrant, warmly sensous 12 has particularly impressive structure (notably a succulent, mineral acidity) supporting the spicy red & black berry fruit. Lively, long-lingering; very satisfying.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2014, 5*
‘The 2012 Windansea Pinot Noir comes from the 2.5-hectare block directly in front of the winery on denser clay and decomposed granite that tends to impart more structure. It has a fragrant bouquet with scents of redcurrant, red cherry, a touch of balsamic and dried herbs, all well defined and complex. The palate is medium-bodied with quite juicy, succulent tannins, a fine line of acidity with a Chinese five spice note entering stage left toward the finish. This is an accomplished, delicious Pinot Noir to drink over the next 5-6 years.’ – Neal Martin 91/100, Wine Advocate (2014)
