About this Item
The second oldest wine farm in the Cape, and the first in its district, Boschendal is one of the Cape’s jewels with breath-taking 1800-hectare scenery, bespoke hospitality and award-winning wines. With a winemaking history dating back to 1685, Boschendal has long been a showpiece for the traditional heritage of the South African wine industry.
Anglo American acquired the property in 1969, and during the decade of the ‘70s invested in restoration of buildings, expansion of vineyards and building a modern cellar.
Made by Achim von Arnim and Peter Finlayson, the Boschendal Cabernets from this era were made for long lasting from grapes grown on the estate.

Critics Ratings
‘A wine apart. It is a 1978, unblended Cabernet Sauvignon. Unhesitatingly commended as among handful of very top classic Cape reds; superb, rich colour; great volume to its bouquet, which is complex and fathomless; medium-bodied; sily texture delivers grape – berry flavours. Finishes with aplomb, echoing its many facets for at least a few minutes.’ – Platter's SA Wine Guide 1983, 5*
