’2012 more restrained & youthfully complex than Southend version. Supple, silky charm bound up with a quiet, limy intensity & a quickening acidity. Oaking modest (just 25% new) & unobtrusive – as is the 12.9% alcohol. Assertive in only the most subtle way! Improves on 11 & tough-vintage 10 .’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2014, 5*
‘The 2012 Family Vineyards Chardonnay comes from the estate’s vines located just below the Pinot Noir vines. Raised in around 30% new oak from two small Burgundy coopers, it has a lovely nougat and hazelnut-tinged bouquet, the fruit neatly entwined with the oak. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, quite effervescent with touches of orange zest, white peach and apricot, hints of lemon curd and white chocolate coming towards the finish. This is even better than when I tasted it last year - superb.’ – Neal Martin 92/100, Wine Advocate (2014)
