About this Item

2007 Shiraz
12 (2 x 6) 750ml

Niels and Penny Verburg’s agenda to eschew innovation at this Bot River property, after going solo in the early 2000’s after successful wine making at nearby Beaumont, has served them well, establishing Luddite as one of the finest Shiraz producers in South Africa.

Critics Ratings

Powerful 2007 (but just 14% alc), tasted last edition, elegant & fresh. Dark fruit mingled with crushed black pepper, oriental spices. Broad palate, finely textured tannin; subtle oak. Lengthy finish. Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2012, 4.5*

One expects the finish to be powerful and overbearing. On the contrary, it is composed and refined, attesting to some competent winemaking. I suggest cellaring this away for a couple of years. Drink 2013-2018+’ Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (August 2011), 91/100
