About this Item
Based in the Walker Bay region of South Africa, Crystallum is run by brothers Peter-Allan and Andrew Finlayson, 3rd-generation winemakers who focus on Burgundy varieties. Within only a little over 15 years (interestingly the first vintage was a singular Sauvignon in 2007!) this outfit has positioned itself as one of the top proponents of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in South Africa. Awards locally and internationally are in fact unrivalled, and the wines are sold out every year on release.
The Cuvée Cinéma is produced entirely from the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, the highest part of the region, and is the most refined and desired of the three Crystallum single vineyard Pinot Noirs. It was named after a film based on the life of Napoleon that was shot on the site a year prior to the vineyards being planted.

Critics Ratings
‘Marvellous lithe perfumed grace on 13 (5*) from Hemel-en-Aarde ridge, the finest of the range, as was 12. Fresh, brave acidity enlivens sweet dark fruit to the lingering drive finish. Pure fruit & silky texture give early charm; structure should retain, deepen it. These all natural ferment.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2015, 5*
‘The 2013 Cuvée Cinema Pinot Noir is 30% whole-bunch pressed and raised in 30% new oak for 11 months. It has a crisp black cherry, cassis and violet-scented bouquet that is beautifully controlled - sleek and assured. The palate is medium-bodied with superb minerality that comes through, the oak neatly knitted into the crisp, dark cherry finish. This is an exemplary Hemel-en-Aarde Pinot Noir and I feel that at the moment it is a little punchier and denser than Peter-Allan's other cuvées.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (October 2014), 93/100
