About this Item

2001 Estate
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Sister property of renowned Hamilton Russell Vineyards, neighbouring it to the east, and possessing different clay-rich and shale-derived stony soils, inspiring Anthony Hamilton Russell to plant solely to Pinotage on the red front, when he founded the estate back in 1996.

The goal from the onset was to produce unusual, age-worthy, classically styled red wine from the property, and this has been achieved since the release of this maiden 2001 vintage.

Critics Ratings

'Good full ruby red, high-toned aromas of spicy red berries, dried flowers, mint, marzipan and smoky, nutty, slightly resiny oak. Then impressively deep in the mouth, with flavours of black raspberry, iron, leather, smoke and earth, perked up by a note of tart cranberry. This boasts terrific freshness and sappy depth of flavor. Finishes firmly tannic and impressively long. An unapologetically French-style pinotage, if that's possible for a South African variety.' – Steven Tanzer, International Wine Cellar (2005), 92/100
