About this Item
Founded in 1682, Rustenberg Estate on the Simonsberg foothills is one of the most historic and picturesque farms in South Africa. The farm was previously split into two estates, until 1945 when industrialist Peter Barlow purchased both farms and reunited them. Rustenberg is family-owned with son of Peter Barlow, Simon, owning the estate and grandson, Murray (2 x Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) now cellar master.
Their flagship wine is named after Peter Barlow and is a site-specific 100% Cabernet Sauvignon high up on the Simonsberg. It is the oldest vineyard on the estate.

‘A flagship as handsome as its origin: 100% cab from Simonsberg vineyard-with-a-view. Grapes cultivated with unwavering focus (pruned/cropped several times; rows/bunches individually tagged at start of each vintage; machine and manual bunch/berry selection during three-pass harvest). 99 among Cape’s classy best, likely to be long-lived.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2004, 5*
'Incredible pure, composed and solid at 19 years of age. It offers lovely black fruit, cedar and classic cigar box along with structured tannins and a sense of minerality. One of the best SA reds of the 1990s'. - Roland Peens 95/100 (2018)
