Notes
The present lot was one of the first works the artist created based on colonial monuments. This interest developed into the Monument series of drawings and three dimensional sculptural paintings and then to an ongoing series of large pastel drawings where fragments of colonial architecture and monuments were embedded in land masses. The artist's interest in monuments and memorials continues as does his interest in land.
We wish to thank Clive van den Berg for his assistance in cataloguing this lot.
