About this Item
Boekenhoutskloof, located in the Franschhoek valley, was established in 1776 and gets its name 'Boekenhout' from an indigenous Beech tree. Boekenhoutskloof, managed by Marc Kent, describes themself as a Syrah specialist. Their efforts in conservation can be seen through initiatives they have taken-on in their farm and surrounding areas. They are also a founding member of the Franschhoek Mountain Conservancy.

Critics Ratings
‘Latest 2001 beautifully polished, usual classically oaked cassis scents; lithe body, great balance, expansive sweet-fruited richness. More accessible than 2000, which more obviously tannic, though both vintages have a good decade’s development potential. All from single Franschhoek hillside vineyard’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2004, 4.5*
‘Bright ruby-red. Rich, claret-like aromas of currant, cedar, mocha, tobacco and loam. Sweet, dense and creamy but with a firm spine. Very nicely extracted wine, finishing subtle and long, with sweetness and grip. The fine tannins spread out horizontally to coat the palate. This is excellent. Following fermentation in stainless steel, this wine went through malolactic in 100% new French oak and was aged for 18 months on its lees without sulfur additions, and with the barrels topped only once. The wine was then fined and moved into a second set of barrels, where it remained for another nine months before being fined again and bottled.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91/100 (Mar 2005)
