Porto Cálem is a famous Port producer founded in 1859 by António Alves Cálem in the Douro Valley, Portugal. Besides the Vintage Port, a number of different styles are made. During the early years of the business the wines were mostly produced for export to Brazil in exchange for local woods. Only the late 19th Century that the focus turned to the production of Ports. Porto Cálem was family-owned until 1998 when then Sogevinus Group bought the company, along with its Port holdings and vineyards.

Critics Ratings

‘Pale-mid amber with some tawny tones. Mahogany and wood spice, clove and cinnamon, and dried herbs. Fully developed. Intense sweetness and lovely, concentrated freshness of acidity, with some orange and dried strawberry on the palate, with vanilla, hazelnut, mahogany and old-tobacco complexity. Superb length and a good example of a fully developed style.’ - Tim Jackson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 18.5/20 (Apr 2019)
