Planted almost 30 years ago on a decomposed granite site on the higher slopes of the Helderberg by the legendary John Platter, and recently restored to its former glory with this maiden release - Clos du Ciel, which means “Heavenly Vineyard”, has proven to produce an infinitely complex and unique but classic Chardonnay.

Critics Ratings

'Established by John and Erica Platter, Clos du Ciel has proved to be one of the Cape’s great Chardonnay vineyards, densely planted with ten different clones. Spicy, focused and chalky with well-integrated (70% new) oak, this has flavours of citrus peel, nutmeg and creamy lees. Drink: 2015-22' - Tim Atkin SA Wine Report 2015, 95/100

'Citronella and lemongrass aromatics envelop more subtle primary fruit that include peach skin and naartjie peel. Then also hints of vanilla, baked apple, marzipan and honey. The palate possesses verve and savoury grip, with elements of crushed river pebble, rock salt and flint, but also a grainy, pithy textural element akin to walnut and hard pear. There is real weight and mouth-filling substance, even at 12,5% ABV with complexity gained from lees contact and completely integrated oak. Bone dry, savoury finish.' - Higgo Jacobs 2015, 94/100
