About this Item
In 1880, a 22-year-old Joseph Drouhin settled in Beaune and founded his own wine company. His son Maurice succeeded him and established a domaine for the Drouhin house by buying land in outstanding appellations including the famous Clos des Mouches and Clos de Vougeot. Today, 4th generation Véronique Drouhin continues the family’s prestigious Burgundy legacy. With 73 hectares of biodynamically-farmed vines, Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy’s largest estates. With vineyards in close to 90 different appellations, Drouhin offers a fascinating array of Burgundy terroirs.

‘It's rare for wines in magnum to completely transcend their 750 ml counterparts early on - it's usually not until the wines are at least 10 years old before the superiority of the magnum format manifests itself. However, in this case, the magnum completely dominates the 750 ml version. I repeat the note from the 750 ml version but note that there is more powerful, intensity and sheer class in the magnum. Why this should be so I cannot say but I've now had this wine from magnum 5 times and there is no mistaking the greatness of this wine: Classic white burg aromas of immense breadth and depth with white flower notes, minerals and knockout complexity. This is a big, rich yet delineated wine that has near perfect balance. In short, this is flat out superb with an intensity, complexity, depth and stony minerality that is something special to behold. The length lasts for minutes and for my taste, this has finally arrived at its full maturity though there is certainly no rush to drink up as it should maintain this magnificent level for years. Consistent notes.’ – Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 96/100 (2015)
