About this Item

1966 Pessac-Léognan
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Château la Mission Haut-Brion is a Bordeaux wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, classed among the Crus Classés in the Graves classification of 1953. With a long history of winemaking, La Mission Haut-Brion has consistently performed as a wine and garnered the respect of many international wine critics. Jancis Robinson MW describes La Mission as "the quintessential insider's wine". Situated on uniquely stony soil, the vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc; the grand vin and second wine, La Chapelle de la Mission, are made from these. In 2009, the white wine previously made under the label of Château Laville Haut-Brion was added to the main La Mission Haut-Brion stable, and its annual production is between 500 and 700 cases.

Critics Ratings

‘Gorgeous cedar and haunting Sandalwood character, and though a touch of green pepper suggests a tiny under ripeness, this just has fresh personality and appeal. On the palate there is real juiciness, which married to plenty of spicy, warming oak, tight and racy tannins and a crisp acidity, is classically austere, and very appealing indeed.’  - Tom Cannavan, wine-pages.com, 93/100 (Jan 2008)

'The 1966 La Mission-Haut-Brion, never quite as rich and deep as the 1964, is still a beautifully made, elegant La Mission, with a very cedary and leather-scented, fruity bouquet, medium to full body, and a long, supple, velvety finish. I would advise those who have it in their wine collections to consume it over the next 4-5 years. It does not appear capable of getting any better, and may, in fact, be just starting to lose the fruit. Anticipated maturity: Now-2000.’  - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 89/100 (Jan 1998)
