"Krige would set out in the early morning to paint landscape scenes around Montagu [...] He loved hiking and swimming in the mountain streams and knew the fauna and flora of the Cape ranges intimately. His paintings of the mountains around Montagu show an acute understanding of nature, of how the rock was formed, twisted and contorted.
