9 wood engravings made between the years 1846 and 1864, printed from the original blocks by Cecil Skotnes with text by Frank Bradlow, published by The John and Charles Bell Heritage Trust, Cape Town, 1983, signed on the title page by Frank Bradlow and Cecil Skotnes, one of an edition of 10 with 4 'hors commerce', unnumbered but each sheet inscribed 'Proof', in cloth covered solander box.

On 1 September 1853, the first adhesive postage stamp in Africa was issued in the Cape of Good Hope, a British colony at the time. The triangular shaped stamp became known as the 'Cape Triangular'. The stamp was designed by Charles Davidson Bell, who was then the Surveyor General of the Cape Colony.
