“Mohau Modisakeng’s self-portraiture is mapping a different path wherein he uses the corporality and vulnerability of his body to express the unitability of distinctions such as colonial-postcolonial / traditional-modern / male-female / image-reality / human-animal. By placing his body in close proximity with the whip, the gun, the machete, the axe and the blinkers, Modisakeng signals the list of tools of oppression is limitless; and so is the list of tools of liberation”.1
