About this Item
Established In 1999 as a joint venture partnership between world famous golfer, Ernie Els, and Jean Engelbrecht of Rust & Vrede. Els naturally chose Stellenbosch, South Africa's most storied wine region, to produce his wines and they brought on the award-winning Louis Strydom to oversee winemaking.

Critics Ratings
‘Ernie Els’ previous editions. Classic 5-part Bordeaux blend, like 2006 (4.5 stars), cab-led in outstanding 2007. Not to be hurried, layered & complex; creamy fruit, fennel, white pepper, the oak giving savoury mocha spicing to the palate. Powerful, but musculature not intrusive, part of an impressive whole.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide, 5* (2011)
‘Ripe and suave, with alluring blackberry, plum sauce and roasted fig notes laced with black tea, cocoa powder, maduro tobacco and smoked apple wood notes. The long, grippy finish smolders nicely, with dense, dark fruit and lovely mouthfeel. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Sep 2011)
'The 2007 vintage was generally a great one for Bordeaux-style reds in Stellenbosch, and the Els Signature definitely demonstrates it. Sure, it's ripe and sexy with a lot of sweet oak characteristics like cocoa powder and smoky wood, but it's got the ripe fruit core of black plum and dark forest berries to back it up. Spicy layers of leather, cigar box and black tea leaves add complexity to the palate, while chewy tannins provide a firm structure. A bit young now, so try after 2015.' - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100
'Bright quite luminous cerise. Red berry and blackcurrant notes, savoury, but with a plush edge, making it seductive, attractive and accessible.' - Michael Fridjhon, Winewizard.co.za, 93/100 (Apr 2013)
