About this Item
Often described as the South African equivalent of a Grand Cru or First Growth, Kanonkop Estate is situated on the Simonsberg mountain slopes on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. Owned by the fourth generation Krige family, Abri Beeslaar is their long-term winemaker who has won International Winemaker of the year an incredible 3 times.
This internationally acclaimed, long-ageing Bordeaux blend was named after former owner, Paul Sauer, and was first made in 1981. The elegant 2008 is reaching its plateau of maturity and will keep for another decade.

Wine Cellar Private ClientCritics Ratings
'A blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc and 9% Merlot, this is a dense and brooding wine, with dark notes of cassis, licorice, black plum, date and cigar-box spice on the nose and in the mouth. The palate is firmly structured, with medium tannins and balanced alcohol that lend the wine a crushed-velvet texture. Glimmers of charred oak and toasted spice linger long on the finish. Delicious now, but should develop more layer and nuance with time; drink through 2018.' - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (Mar 2014)
‘Very classic and perhaps old fashioned in style but well made.’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Aug 2011)
'A dense and chewy red, delivering damson plum, raspberry and cherry skin flavors wound together, along with a floral edge and an iron note. The long, savory herb–tinged finish has matured a touch, but is still vibrant and chiseled in feel and should unwind more with additional cellaring. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Drink now through 2017.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Feb 2013)
