About this Item
Le Riche was founded in 1996 by Etienne le Riche, one of the founding members of the Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG). Situated on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, it is now run by Etienne’s son, Christo and daughter, Yvonne. Le Riche are known for premium red wines in a classic South African style. Grapes are selected from top growers in Stellenbosch, coming from mainly two soil types – decomposed granite soils and sandy gravel. The winemaking approach is traditionally simplistic, yet innovative.

Critics Ratings
‘Consistency, sensitive approach Le Riche attributes; both evident in 04, without losing vintage character. Touch more sumptuous than std wine; structure, sweet fruit, oaking in balance with general lightness, for several yrs growth.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2009, 4.5*
‘Rich and juicy but also lovely depth of fruit on the palate. Sappy and bright and already complex though there's still fresh fruit flavours. Really long and fresh even with that level of richness. Very young and a long life ahead (makes me wonder if the Rustenberg Cabernet 1982 was anything like this in its youth). Massive step up from the straight Cabernet.’ – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (May 2009)
