About this Item
After global travels and living in Japan for more than two decades, Hans-Peter Schröder relocated to Stellenbosch and bought the beautiful Oude Nektar farm in the Jonkershoek Valley in the late 1980s. He was later joined by son-in-law José Conde, a native of Kansas City, who took up the reins in the cellar with both passion and precision, unlocking the potential of the Jonkershoek terroir.
This single-vineyard iconic Cabernet is based on a high elevation vineyard site (350m). The finely textured decomposed granite soil, cooler temperatures, and ample winter rainfall creates perfect growing conditions for premium Cabernet. The wine is characterized by its silky tannin structure and unique floral notes. Since its maiden vintage in 2000, this has been one of South Africa’s most consistently awarded Cabernets.

'Based on the best block from the Three Pines Vineyard at 350 metres in the picturesque Jonkershoek Valley, this is a cuvée of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Focused, sappy, textured and refined, with herbal complexity and supporting acidity. 2020-25' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 94/100
'Floral, black-fruit seduction on superbly refined, restrained & elegant 2016. Harmonious too, with nothing dominating. Dabs petit verdot, malbec & cab franc merge seamlessly with oak (70% new) & part natural ferment to add complexity, length. Old, high-lying vines, as 2015 (5 stars, 95 pts).' - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2019, 4.5* (93/100)
'Matured for 20 months in small French oak, 70% new. Includes 6% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. A slight reductive note as well as floral fragrance and crushed leaves to go with black and blue fruit and some attractive oak-derived notes on the nose. The palate is rich and luscious with smooth, supple tannins. Sweet on entry but not too much so, the finish suitably dry. Very accomplished in a modern, upfront style.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100 (Apr 2019)
'A ripe, sleek and refined style, featuring a focused beam of cassis, laced with a bright iron note, while light alder and savory details flit in the background. Drink now through 2022.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Jun 2019)
