A Japanese scholar's hardwood writing box, Meiji period (1868-1912)
rectangular with pierced front gallery above two short drawers, decorated with maki-e and mother-of-pearl inlay, the sides with carrying-handle, inner compartment divisions lacking, 12cm high, 21,5cm wide, 15,2cm deep; and another, the interior fitted with open, covered and water dropper compartments, the front with pierced gallery above two short drawers, the sides with carrying-handle, handle repaired, 13,2cm high, 21cm wide, 14,5cm deep
