A Chinese carved ivory vessel and cover, Qing Dynasty, 19th century
the pear-shaped body raised on a short foot carved with a key-fret band, the body carved in low relief with kui dragons and taotie masks against a leiwen ground, the sides carved in high relief with dragon flanges, the shoulders carved with dragon masks, each supporting a chain and double-dragon handle, the cover similarly carved with dome-shaped finial flanked by carved flanges, the whole heightened with staining, cabochon-cut coral and turquoise beads, on a conforming stepped hardwood stand inlaid with silver wirework decoration, 50,5cm high including stand
