A near pair of Chinese Export blue and white ‘Nanking’ sauce tureens, Qing Dynasty, late 18th/early 19th century
each oval, the body painted with pagodas, sampans, willow and pine trees within a continuous riverscape, the sides moulded with foliate-and-berry handles, the detachable covers similarly decorated with cell-diaper rim, surmounted by a moulded ring-and-bow handle, the cover with gilt highlights, hairline cracks, 19,5cm wide over handles, 13,5cm high
