A Chinese lacquered wood and gilt robe box, Qing Dynasty, 19th century
square, the centre of the hinged cover moulded with a shield-shaped panel painted in gilt with a rondel of figures before a pavilion to a black lacquer ground, enclosed by a red border highlighted with gilt flowerheads, bordered by a black and gilt foliate frame, the sides applied with a pair of handles, enclosing a fitted paper-lined interior, the front painted with a rondel of courtiers enclosed by foliate and geometric panels, lacquer loss, cracks, some distress, 75cm square
