About this Item
In 1992, the late Giulio Bertrand retired to South Africa from Italy and bought the historic Morgenster farm on the slopes of the Schaapenberg, which dates back to 1711. Specialising in long-ageing Bordeaux-style reds, the director of Cheval Blanc, Pierre Luton, was hired as the consultant.

Critics Ratings
‘Carefully judged merlot (48%), with cab, cab franc & petit verdot blend brings out best in lighter 2010. Less plush than usual, with lively freshness & a fine, succulent grip. Oak subtle enhancement. As drinkable as a good young wine should be; has room to improve in medium term.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide, 4.5* (2013)
‘48% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. Winemaker: Henry Kotze, age 35. Very European in its freshness and refined but taut tannins. This is still very young but there is elegance and finesse even from the outset. Needs time to develop greater sophistication and complexity but all the components are in place for a long life.’ – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Mar 2013)
