About this Item
Neil Ellis pioneered the négotiant, or non-estate, concept of sourcing grapes from growers all over the Cape and producing wine from the early 70s and, today, has become a pillar and legend of the local industry. Neil’s vision has always been to ‘make distinctive, refined wines that are expressive of their terrain and rank amongst South Africa’s finest’ and, with more than three decades of Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon production under his belt, there are not many who could do it any better.
Neil Ellis pioneered the négotiant, or non-estate, concept of sourcing grapes from growers all over the Cape as early as 1984, and today has become a pillar and legend of the local industry. Mindful that no single vineyard can satisfy the needs of all grape varieties, Neil Ellis set out to identify distinct terroir in which individual varieties will excel. Neil’s vision has always been to ‘make distinctive, refined wines that are expressive of their terrain and rank amongst South Africa’s finest’. The Terrain Specific range is an expression of this vision.
Sourced from unirrigated low yielding bush vines in Darling, only 8km from the Atlantic Ocean.

'Very fresh and pure with vivid pepper and olive cool climate notes meshing with pure cherry and berry fruits. Ripe, pure, slightly meaty fruit notes. Smooth-textured and pure, with cherries and plums complemented by peppery freshness. Fabulous.' - Jamie Goode, Wine Anorak 2012, 94/100
