About this Item
Neil Ellis pioneered the négotiant, or non-estate, concept of sourcing grapes from growers all over the Cape and producing wine from the early 70s and, today, has become a pillar and legend of the local industry. Neil’s vision has always been to ‘make distinctive, refined wines that are expressive of their terrain and rank amongst South Africa’s finest’ and, with more than three decades of Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon production under his belt, there are not many who could do it any better.
Mindful that no single vineyard can satisfy the needs of all grape varieties, Neil Ellis set out to identify distinct terroir in which individual varieties will excel. Neil’s vision has always been to ‘make distinctive, refined wines that are expressive of their terrain and rank amongst South Africa’s finest’.

Critics Ratings
‘Stellar Jonkershoek Valley quality evident even in warmer vintage. 2010 reveals rich cassis fruit earlier than tighter-knit 2009 (4.5 stars) but shows the same inherent elegance, structure & complexity. Much pleasure for the patient.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide, 5* (2014)
‘This shows muscle and purity, with a broad swath of tannins leading the way for now, offering a lovely core of steeped red currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit. Energetic iron and savory notes line the finish. Should settle in after some cellaring.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Apr 2014)
