About this Item
Paul Cluver estate reflects the uniqueness of the cool-climate Elgin terroir. Established in 1896, Dr Paul Cluver IV pioneered the Elgin wine region and today it is a family affair. Andries Burger is married to Paul’s daughter and has been winemaker for two decades.
Notes
“Pioneering in spirit, no family has been more influential than the Cluvers in establishing Elgin as one of SA’s finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir regions. The Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the benchmarks that all other wines from this region are measured against. With Andries Burger’s passion, and the assistance of Burgundian consultant Martin Prieur, these flagship wines have seen a steady and marked refinement over the last few years.” – Wine Cellar
Arguably the most Burgundian of Cape Pinot Noirs, guided by the gentle hand of consultant Martin Prieur, this scented, refined red comes from three sites and is made with clones 113, 115 and 777. Savoury red fruit, bright acidity, filigree tannins and deftly integrated wood. Tim Atkin 2018
To my mind, this i the best Seven Flags Pinot release to date, a glorious expression of a fantastic Cape vintage. Deeply coloured, it’s serious, dense, complex stuff that’s made to develop in bottle rather than dazzle in its youth. Plummy, well balanced and rich, it has a patina of new oak, filigree tannins and a core of dark fruit.
