- Wine of Origin Swartland
Winemaking Notes:
50% whole bunch fermented. Basket pressed. 50% new oak, the rest in older foudre.
Tasting Notes:
Deep, inky colour. Perfume and spice on the nose. A more savoury offering on the palate. Appealing mid-palate with a lingering finish of violets and white pepper. Pairs well with a hearty lamb dish.
Candice made this wine at Boekenhoutskloof under the guidance of CWG Member Gottfried Mocke.
“Skatkis means treasure chest in Afrikaans. The name is so fitting for my wine because it broadly encapsulates the ‘treasures’ of life. Firstly, the grapes are from the Goldmine vineyard in Swartland. However, treasures are not only silver and gold; they’re all our memories and stories untold. When people drink this wine, I want them to reminisce about their own ‘treasures’. This wine holds the key to all the support, knowledge, experience and skills I’ve gained from the best winemakers in the industry. I am now ready to share that key with the rest of the world!” Candice Nassen.
Michael Topkin - RAM 2020
- 100% Pinotage
- Alc 15.06 % vol | RS 3.10 g/l | TA 5.62 g/l | pH 3.65
- Wine of Origin Stellenbosch
Winemaking Notes:
Vinified the Beyerskloof way and aged in second fill French oak.
Tasting Notes:
Soft & fruity, with slight oaky nuances.
Michael made this wine at Beyerskloof, under the guidance of Beyers Truter.
“RAM is an acronym for the names of my mother, sister and my own. Rubina, Anja and Michael. It symbolises the strength we have together.” Michael Topkin.
Kelsey Shungking - 17 Diamond 2020
- 100% Chardonnay
- Alc 12.53% vol | RS 2.33 g/l | TA 6.05 g/l | pH 3.31
- Wine of Origin Ceres Plateau
Winemaking Notes:
Pristine, cool-climate Ceres fruit was allowed some skin contact before obtaining free-run juice. It was fermented by natural yeast in 100% new French oak and kept on its lees with regular battonage for six months. Minimal sulphites and intervention allowed for a true expression of Ceres Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes:
Typical cool climate minerality, hints of white flowers, yellow stone fruit and subtle oak on the nose. Elegant and smooth on the palate with a great balancing acidity and persisting finish of citrus blossoms. Will age beautifully over the next 3 years.
Kelsey made this wine at De Grendel under the guidance of CWG Member Charles Hopkins.
“Making this wine was a dream come true for me. It allowed me to be creative, show my passion for wine and make something beautiful to give back to those who have supported me along my journey.” Kelsey Shungking.
Roger Cloete - ‘The Famous Warrior’ Cabernet Sauvignon - Cabernet Franc - Merlot 2020
- 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot.
- Alc 14.30% vol | RS 2.14 g/l | TA 5.69 g/l | pH 3.66
- Wine of Origin Simonsberg-Stellenbosch
Winemaking Notes:
Each varietal was harvested separately, de-stemmed and sorted into tank. The wines spent between 20-40 days in tank with three pump-overs per day and then pressed to undergo malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wines were racked to French oak barrels (60% new oak was used) for a period of 12 months before blending and bottling.
Tasting Notes:
Complex palate of fruit with blackberries and red plum, with further notes of mulberry and black cherry. Subtle hints of dried oregano add further to the wine matrix. Supported by a powdery tannin structure, leading to a clean and pure fruity finish.
Roger made this wine at Warwick under the guidance of CWG Member JD Pretorius.
“I chose this name for my wine, because I believe the wine reflects my personality. It is a bold, energetic and confident wine that will eventually push its way to the top if it has to.” Roger Cloete.
Victoria Davis – Victorious 2020
- 100 % Chardonnay
- Alc 12.19% vol | RS 3.02 g/l | TA5.69 g/l | pH 3.39
- Wine of Origin Stellenbosch
Winemaking Notes:
The grapes were whole-bunch pressed and settled in a stainless steel tank. The juice was transferred into 500 litre new and second fill French oak barrels, where it fermented naturally. Left on the lees for 11 months and then bottled.
Tasting Notes:
The wine displays a vibrant yellow colour. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, apple and toasted brioche emerge from the glass. The wine enters the palate with citrus and nutty flavours, leading to a creamy mid-palate with subtle honeysuckle and minerality. There is a continuous feeling of freshness throughout the palate.
Victoria made this wine at Glenelly, under the guidance of Luke O’Cuinneagain.
“This wine is a symbol of hope and prosperity for woman in the wine industry. It is also a proclamation that I will overcome whatever life throws at me because I am victorious.” Victoria Davis.
