About this Item

Rhône Collection
1999 2
2 (1 x 2) 750ml

This lot consists of the following wines:

Alain Graillot Saint-Joseph 1999
Domaine Alain Graillot
is a top wine producer located in Crozes-Hermitage in the northern Rhône. Alain Graillot founded the domaine in 1985, releasing his first vintage from a rented vineyard. The domaine quickly rose to prominence and only three years after its establishment, Graillot purchased the vineyards he had been renting. Now, Graillot makes a range of Syrah-based wines in Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, and Saint-Joseph.

Nicolas Perrin Saint-Joseph 1999
The story of Maison Nicolas Perrin is that of two families who come from the two opposite ends of the Rhône valley, North and South. In the North, Nicolas Jaboulet, who grew up on the hillsides of Hermitage, and the Perrin family who has been in the southern Rhône, primarily in the prestigious appellation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, since the beginning of the 20th century. This geographical reunion finds its meaning in the phrase "Axis Mundi." These latin words stand for the 4 cardinal points and symbolize the Côtes de Rhône region divided between the Northern (Septentrional) and the Southern (Meridional) appellations and right and left banks of the Rhône river.

Critics Ratings

Alain Graillot Saint-Joseph 1999
‘Bright ruby-red. Spicy nose combines raspberry, cassis, leather, pepper, espresso and fresh blood. Fruity and pure, with red berry, mineral and pepper flavors. Unusually accessible for this wine; Graillot notes that it has been easy to drink since day one. Still, the tannins grew with aeration, suggesting that this wine may close up in the coming months.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (Jan 2001)
